In the previous article we talked about the way the Twilight Deck works. After having explained the basic things about the deck's operation, we will now see its Basic Engine and later on present a pretty basic but solid decklist. Let's begin!
The Monsters
As we have already mentioned, the deck combines DARK & Lightsworn monsters, as well as graveyard-related cards, in order to achieve victory. The Monsters are this deck's most important part, so you might want to be patient and careful while choosing them. All Twilight Decks should include a series of 'standard' monsters, which should be:
1x Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning: Newly unbanned card which is something like an overpowered Chaos Sorcerer.
2/3x Chaos Sorcerer: The graveyard will be full of DARK & LIGHT Monsters, so Special Summoning him will be easy for you and painful for the opponent.
1x Dark Armed Dragon: Being able to control the graveyard so easily, it will be rather easy to summon this powerful Dragon.
2/3x Judgment Dragon: A card which just got unlimited and can change the game very easily, even if you have an empty field and hand.
1x Gorz the Emissary of Darkness: Dying before swarming the field is bad.
1/2x Tragoedia: Protection along with a variety of great effects.
1x Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner: It will help you get rid of the cards that are useless in your hand, and summon some of your most powerful Lightsworn monsters.
1x Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior: Not only does he help you fill your graveyard quickly, but he also gives you draw power.
1x Jain, Lightsworn Paladin: A Beatstick that mills. That's the exact definition of that card.
1x Ehren, Lightsworn Monk: It helps against a variety of decks, as it will send any Defence Position monster it attacks back to the deck.
1/morex Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress: Important ATK power and an effect that provides you an extra MST for your deck - just in monster shape and form.
1/morex Wulf, Lightsworn Beast: If you haven't noticed it, the deck mills a lot. Wulf will help you with the monsters that need to be Tribute Summoned, like Celestia, or he will just get rid of your opponent's beatsticks.
1/morex Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter: You get to mill and get rid of one of your opponent's cards.
1/2x Celestia, Lightsworn Angel: Even if Starlight Road is a big threat, the "up to" option is more than enough to dominate an opponent's strategy.
1x Glow-Up Bulb: He mills, he helps you Tribute summon, he helps you Synchro Summon. The only thing he doesn't do is make you coffee.
1x Honest: Protects your monster, destroys an opponent's monster and deals some damage to the opponent.
2x Necro Gardna: Mill him and you will protect your monsters from dying, or your Life Points from possible OTKs.
And this is the basic Monster Engine. You need all the cards above in order to suceed, the quantity matters as well, but having at least a copy is mandatory. Below, we'll see basic engine of the deck I use:
3x Judgment DragonThere are other monster cards that you could use as well, such as Card Trooper (helps you mill and adds draw power), Plaguespreader Zombie (can be used while in the graveyard and can help you Synchro Summon more easily) or Caius the Shadow Monarch (substitute for Celestia in the Twilight Deck), but these do not form a part of the Basic Engine, that's why they were not mentioned above. Let's now move on to the Spells.
2x Chaos Sorcerer
1x Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
1x Dark Armed Dragon
2x Tragoedia
1x Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
1x Celestia, Lightsworn Angel
2x Wulf, Lightsworn Beast
2x Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter
2x Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
1x Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner
1x Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior
1x Jain, Lightsworn Paladin
1x Ehren, Lightsworn Monk
2x Necro Gardna
1x Glow-Up Bulb
1x Honest
The Spells
The Spells that the Twilight Deck uses include the staple Spell cards, along with cards that combine draw power and milling. More specifically, the Spell Cards that the deck will be using are the following:
2/3x Solar Recharge: Draw 2, Mill 2. Just great!
1x Allure of Darkness: Draw 2 cards and remove a DARK Monster. It won't be hard finding one in here!
1x Charge of the Light Brigade: Mill 3 cards and add Lumina (in most cases) to your hand.
1/morex Monster Reincarnation: In case you mill your JDs or BLSes, etc. this card will help you use them immidiately!
2/3x Mystical Space Typhoon: Get rid of your opponent's backrow, thus setting the way for the big bosses.
1x Heavy Storm: Overpowered Mystical Space Typhoon.
1x Monster Reborn: Obvious.
1x Dark Hole: Obvious.
And there you have it! The Spell Traps of the basic Twilight Engine! Moving on to the last part of the engine explanation, the Trap Cards!
The Traps
As surprising as it may sound, this deck's Trap Engine is not stable. It varies between 3 basic versions, and none of them can be considered "the best": it's all up to the player and his/her experience! The first engine is a lone Trap Card, named Treacherous Trap Hole. Provided that you don't have any other Trap Cards in your graveyard (you won't, since this is the only one you'll be playing), you can destroy 2 monsters on the field. Yeah, that's right! Now, even if it is a valid Starlight Road target, it can give you a great advantage in a tough moment! The second engine is the well known "Decree Engine", in which you run 3x Royal Decree, in order to stun your opponent's backrow and be able to freely summon your vicious creatures! The problem with that card during this format, is the fact that MST is unlimited and Heavy Storm is limited, which means that destroying it will be really easy. The last engine involves the card Beckoning Light, with which you can discard all cards in your hand and add the same number of LIGHT Monsters from your graveyard to your hand. Even if it will be a great opportunity to get rid of useless cards in your hand, you may not have the appropriate LIGHT targets, since this is a Twilight and not a Pure Lightsworn Deck!
Having said all the above and having explained each option, I'd like to present you my very own version of the Twilight Deck, which I've been working on for some time. I won't explain the obvious things, just the ones you didn't read above!
