YCS: Toronto - Overview

Hello everybody! Here we are today, with a Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Event discussion! As most of you may know, last weekend two events took place in America: YCS Toronto and YCS Equador. KONAMI has provided full coverage for YCS Toronto, so that's why we'll be discussing about it today!

YCS Toronto was the first YCS Event after Generation Force's release and also the first YCS in which players were using the September 1st 2011 banlist! As you may understand, it was a serious event in which many things were proven about the current state of our meta and deck tiers!

As far as the decks are concerned, despite the fact that 5 valuable Plant-Aspects were hit by the last banlist, Plant Synchro players could still be seen everywhere around the Event Hall - something truly inspiring and promising, if we take into consideration the fact that Plants are no longer considered to be a top-tier deck! As predicted, Agents (either their T.G. version, or the Tour Guide, or even the clear one) were also a very intensively used deck in Toronto this weekend and that's why it got so many spots in the top 16! Another deck that saw some play was Tech Genus. Since it is a really solid deck that can control the game from the beginning till the end, many duelists chose it to attend that YCS. Something truly surprising was the limited use of Twilight/Lightsworn Decks! Was it the lack of consistency? Was it the bad luck? No matter what the factor was, we didn't get to see any Decks of that type in any Feature Match or Top Brackets during the weekend!

Moving on to the Top 16 consisted of players using the following Decks:
8 players were using Agents.
5 players were using Plant Synchro.
1 player was using Karakuri (!).
1 player was using Tech Genus.
1 player was using Anti-Monster.
This means that the 1/2 of the Top 16 players were using Agents and ~1/3 were using a deck that was considered to be dead during that format! Taking the above into consideration, we can easily say that Agents will be dominant during this format, probably because of overuse, that Plant Synchro will still be played by many players and that this format won't be that diverse, in comparison with the previous ones! Is that good, or is that bad? We'll find out soon, as time goes by!

What we haven't talked about yet is the winner of YCS: Toronto! After 4 consecutive tops in YCS Events, for this year only, William (Billy) Brake finally managed to achieve the win that he so much deserved! Piloting Plant Synchro, Billy Brake proved his skill and abilities, thus winning YCS Toronto after a final in which he faced an old nemesis: Nicky Lacaille who was running Agents! His Youtube nickname is havok41, so you would probably want to check it out, in case he publishes something related to that YCS and his win!
