Hello everybody! I hope you all had a great week! I'm sorry for not having posted anything for some time, but schools have started and I needed some time to acclimatize. But here we are, with a brand new, interesting Article about Side Decking during this format. We all know that choosing the proper Side Deck cards is a tricky thing to do, and many duelists have trouble doing it successfully. In this article, we are going to talk about the cards that will really help you at the second and the third game of your matches, during this format!
We will begin with an old card that has now come back, along with its friend, Heavy Storm. The card we are talking about is Starlight Road. This Normal Trap Card can be used to negate the activation of an effect and destroy a card that would destroy 2 or more of your cards. Furthermore, you'll get to Special Summon a Stardust Dragon on your side of the field. Now that Heavy Storm is back, and Dark Hole is still a staple, Starlight Road will really help you protect your own cards and summon an amazingly good Dragon. Also, if you are facing decks like The Twilight, which include a wide variety of destruction-related effects, Starlight Road will come in handy!
Another great Side Deck option is the well known card Nobleman of Crossout. Are you afraid of your opponent's Rykos? No problem! There's the solution! You do not want to destroy your opponent's face down Goblin Zombie/Pyramid Turtle? Nobleman of Crossout will do the job! Has your Dark-World Opponent set a face-down Morphing Jar that will really hurt you when flipped? Nobleman of Crossout will do the job again! Has your car broken down in the middle of nowhere? Well, that's the only situation in which that important Spell Card can't do a lot.
Continuing, we see Cyber Dragon, a great beatstick that has always been a great Side Deck choice. Cyber Dragon can be the food for your opponent's Bottomless Trap Holes/Solemn Warnings, in order to prepare the road for your bigger plays. Furthermore, it can be used as a beatstick against decks like Gravekeeper's or Gemini Beat, in order to destroy their own 1900-2000 ATK Beatsticks! Last but not least, let's not forget Machina and Karakuri decks, where you can use your opponent's monsters in order to bring the ferocious Chimeratech Fortress Dragon!
Next, we have Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World. I believe that if there's one thing that you've learned from this Blog so far, is that Dark World Decks will be great once the Structure Deck is released. That means that a lot of duelists will be running that deck. Reign-Beaux's effect is activated when he is sent from your hand to the graveyard, due to an opponent's card effect. Does that ring any bells? If not, allow me to help you: Dark World Dealings, Card Destruction, Morphing Jar, etc. So, while your opponent thinks that his cards will give him a great advantage, Reign-Beaux comes in to ruin his plans, by Special Summoning itself and destroying your opponent's monsters or backrow!
Moving on, we'll talk about D.D. Crow, a card that was first released in the Strike of Neos booster pack, and has become an excellent side deck choice since then. During the format, D.D. Crow can do wonders by removing materials needed for Twilight Decks, by getting rid of Mezukis or Zombie Master's targets, or by extinguishing Graphas, ready to get on the field!
Approaching the end, we have Thunder King Rai-Oh, an amazing beatstick, with two great effects that will be of most assistance until March 2012. You see, TKR's effect stops players from adding cards from their decks to their hands. That means that Agent Decks will have a hard time against him, not being able to get Venus to their hand, or use their beloved Pot of Duality. But Thunder King has another effect as well! He can tribute himself in order to negate an opponent's Special Summon. This means that if you are facing a Twilight or a Zombie Deck, your opponent will have second thoughts before Special Summoning Judgment Dragon/Chaos Sorcerer, or Xyz Summoning powerful black-framed Cards, such as Utopia or Steelswarm Roach!
Finally, we will talk about a Trap Card introduced to us in Extreme Victory: Debunk! Debunk is an underestimated card, that can be used against a lot of decks during the current format, from Twilight (Necro Gardnas, Honest, etc.) to Plants (Glow-Up Bulb, Spore, Sangan, etc.). Stopping your opponent's basic monsters from activating their effects might save your life, or even mark your opponent's destruction. Either way, Debunk is a great card that lots of players should consider adding to their Side Decks.
Having said all the above, we eventually reach the end of that article. However, what I'd like to say before closing the article is that, even though we mentioned the most important cards, there are more Side Deck choices, depending on the Deck you're using, such as Effect Veiler or Kinetic Soldier. So don't be afraid - be creative!
That's all fellow Duelists & Judges! Thank you all for reading the Dark World Gates, and stay tuned for more articles!
- Adreus.
